Upon picking you up at your hotel, we will take you to the city of Puerto Varas, which was founded by German colonists in 1854. This city is located at the edge of the grand Lake Llanquihue.
We will visit Phillipi Hill, which is home to many native trees - some of which were introduced by Phillipi, the visionary of the park. The park also has a beautiful lookout point from which you can appreciate the Puerto Varas bay and city.
Later we will take you to the old area of the city to see large houses dating from the German colonial era. We will pass by the famous Sagrado Corazon de Jesus church founded in 1918. The building is a replica of a church found in Germany’s Black Forest. We will then visit the city center where you will observe commercial activity and have the opportunity to try the typical local food at restaurant-like cafes.
Puerto Montt – After visiting Puerto Varas, we will head to Puerto Montt, capital of the 10th region. To arrive there, we will pass through Alerce, an old town inhabited by people of indigenous descent. Their wise ancestors helped first colonists and taught them the use of medicinal plants and about the wood. Today Alerce is an artisan town famous for its larch tree works.
We will visit the Manuel Montt Lookout Point, which provides an incredible view of the city and Reloncavi Sound. Then we will visit the city center, passing by the Plaza de Arms in front of the cathedral inspired by the Parthenon in Athens. Then will with take the coastal highway to Pelluco y Coihuin Beach to observe different birds and small dolphins. When the tide is low, it’s possible to see the numerous larch tree trunks (dating over 15 million years) on the beach.
On the way back to your hotel we will visit Angelmo Cove At this handicraft center and market, you can see many types of fish, seafood, and seaweed. You will also witness the daily life of the people who, in spite of the bad weather and winds, always welcome visitors with a smile.

EXCURSION TO FRUTILLAR AND PUERTO OCTAY |

During the morning ride to Frutillar we will pass by Llanquihue, an agro-industrial city with sausage factories, dairy creameries, and forest factories. Here is the Maullin River, in which flows the drainage water from Lake Llanquihue.
Upon arriving in Frutillar, you will see its beautiful and antique German architecture and spectacular gardens filled with begonias. We will visit the Museum of German Colonization and will have lunch by Lake Llanquihue, observing the grand Osorno and Puntiagudo Volcanoes.
In the afternoon, we will drive along Lake Llanquihue to arrive at Puerto Octay, a town founded in 1854 with beautiful architecture from the beginning of the 20th century.

CHILOE CULTURE EXCURSION |

After leaving your hotel, we will head to Chiloe Island, first travelling by Puerto Montt and the small town of Pargua. In Pargua, we will board a ferry to cross the Chacao Channel to Chiloe. During the 30 minute boat trip, you can observe the numerous maritime birds and the small playful dolphins. Once in Chacao, we will take a rural road to Caulin Bay, where you can see a mating site of migratory birds.
We will continue on to the town of Hueihue, where oysters and mussels are cultivated. After tasting this delicious seafood, we will visit the city of Ancud and stop for lunch. Here we will visit the Regional Museum of Ancud, Fort San Antonio, Arenas Gruesas Beach, Huailhuen Hill, and the market - where you can find seafood and handicrafts.

At this event center in the outskirts of the city, you will be able to taste an exquisite smoked salmon with a delicious glass of Chilean wine. Afterwards, you are invited to learn about the rural customs and traditions.
We will also visit the greenhouse and learn about the evergreen forest and the mystery of the famous Ulmo honey. For dinner you will be served smoked meat, fresh vegetables, and a typical regional dessert, as well as ground coffee. Afterwards, you can observe the stars with our telescope.

VOLCANO OSORNO PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI |

At ten am we will depart from your hotel in Puerto Varas for the Ensenada Villa. Along the way we will pass by beautiful places such as the Pescado River, Puerto Arthur, and los Riscos.
After reaching the villa, we will travel to Petrohue to visit the Petrohue Cascades. In the park we will take a brief walk to the cascades to see the large quantity of water that falls from Lake Todos los Santos and along enormous masses of crystallized lava.
After walking along the paths, we will return to the Canta Rana restaurant at the villa for a delicious lunch. From the restaurant you can admire the Osorno Volcano (2,652 m). After lunch, we will ascend the volcano after taking a short walk in Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. There we will walk through the old Coigues Forest to see the small Verde Lagoon located at the foot of the volcano. Here we will begin our ascent of the volcano via bus.
At 1,000 m we will stop to observe Burbuja Crater and appreciate the Petrohue Valley and Calbuco Volcano in the Andes Mountains. We will then drive up to the ski center (1,200 m); here you can take a walk, enjoy the snow, and see the beautiful and immense Llanquihue Lake.

EXCURSION TO ALERCE ANDINO NATIONAL PARK |

After leaving Puerto Varas and heading for Puerto Montt, we will take the Austral Highway - from which you can see small fishing towns and seaweed collectors, as well as admire the region’s beautiful landscape.
After arriving at the Rio Chamiza bridge, we will begin to travel along the river and observe the colonial German houses amidst old oak trees. We will then pass through the small town of Correntoso, cross the Chamiza River, and arrive at Alerce Andino National Park. We will immediately begin our walk, observing the different native flora species of this humid-rainy forest and the area of younger larch trees - the youngest of which are around 50 years old. We will then visit the Sargazos Lagoon embedded in the mountains.
From there, we will walk to the larch tree forest where some of the trees are more than 3,000 years old. While your guide tells you the story of the noble trees, you will have the chance to rest among these beautiful living monuments. We will have lunch in the forest and return to Puerto Varas in the afternoon.

EXCURSION TO MONTE VERDE |

We will head to the coast, passing by Chinquihue and Panitao and observing the salmon industry. We will exit the highway and continue to Monte Verde, a rural area with an archeological site that forever changed the theory of human settlements of the Americas. In Monte Verde, we will travel to a farm via an ox-driven wagon or on horseback.
Upon arrival at the farm, you will try chicha, a traditional homemade drink of naturally fermented apple juice. Afterwards, you will enjoy a delicious typical country lunch, followed by a light walk around the farm - which is surrounded by the beautiful evergreen forest. You will also be able to see some of the animals raised on the farm, such as llamas, sheep, and buck.
On the way back to the city, we will stop by Las Quemas and its curious chapel. Then we will continue on to Nueva Braunau where you will be transported back to the 1850’s at the Museum of German Colonization. After this nice day in the country, we will drop you off at your hotel.
